Appointment Process

Onsite Consultations

Our clinic is a different experience than from a traditional veterinarian’s office. The most notable aspect is we focus on forensics or finding the cause for the health issue; therefore, we spend more time with our clients and patients. An onsite appointment includes 1) a medical records review 2) a physical exam 3) an action plan with resources 4) a written summary and medical notes uploaded into your portal under sessions folder in documents. (We always encourage you to record the consultation to go back over the information later and/or share with family members.) Your medical records including doctor notes will always be available for you to share with other doctors as needed. We do NOT provide that service for you but rely on you helping us to help you.

Requirements:

  1. ALL medical records: It is extremely helpful to have the previous medical history from any prior veterinarian, so it can be reviewed prior to appointment. This keeps the appointment time more efficient and prevents redundant testing or information gathering. Also, previous medical information can provide a valuable place to begin and to continue to build upon. The release of medical records requires the human guardian(s) permission; therefore, obtaining medical records can be done in two ways: 1) You can call your veterinarian(s) office to have records released to us. If you decide to do so, please have them faxed to 855-791-0111. THIS IS THE BEST WAY AS THEY GO IMMEDIATELY INTO YOUR PORTAL AND CAN BE SHARED BY YOU ANYWHERE IN THE FUTURE INCLUDING FOR INSURANCE CLAIMS. 2. You can upload them directly into your own folders in documents including images (converted to jpegs or PDF format). Videos have to be converted to a youtube link. (See the video on how to upload my animals’ medical records in your intake process forms.)

  2. Pricing: the urgency and complexity of the health issue determines the pricing. More complex cases start at $150.00 for a ½ hour appointment; $250.00 for a 1 hour appointment. All labs, treatments, supplements, etc. will be charged separately and we will be happy to provide an estimate. (A very simple and straight forward medical issue is $110 for 30 minutes and $195 per hour.)

Phone Consultations/Medical Records Reviews

Phone consultations hold a great value in exchange of information; however, it is important to note that Dr. Backus is a licensed veterinarian and as such must follow strict laws by establishing a valid client patient relationship. It is a violation of state(s)and federal law for ANY veterinarian to diagnose, prescribe, and/or treat over the telephone without physically examining the patient within a specified time frame. The laws are no different with holistic and/or integrative medicine, so keep this in mind if you would like to request a phone consult and/or medical records review.

Requirements:

Requirements are the same as an onsite consultation. Medical records and forms must all be submitted prior to your appointment time. Pricing will vary depending on the type of phone consultation needed.

All Consultations

In the holistic medical paradigm, the focus is on getting to the source or cause of a medical issue and addressing that issue to bring the body back into the most optimal balance. The goal of creating the best clinical outcome or life path and often a cure is the journey not just a reduction of symptoms. In the holistic medical paradigm, there are three phases: the first is the information gathering phase. This information can come from many sources including medical intuitive, spiritual counseling, emotional disintegration, whatever is the driving or biggest contributor(s) to the issue or well being of the animal. The second phase is the creation of an individualized action plan based upon thorough and thoughtful decisions from the information gathered in the first phase. The third phase is the implementation of the action plan. In all three phases, I could wear different hats from life coach to minister to doctor to surgeon to pharmacist. My breadth of knowledge in legitimate training and credentials as well as my experience and access to a well traveled and gathered resource list of people is where the value is.

Every situation is unique in the level and extent of assistance in each of the phases of the journey. Phone consultation is utilized for information gathering and creation of an action plan.  The fee structure for this service is in 15 minute increments.  Each increment of time is a package that includes the time to review any medical records or information prior to the consultation, the actual time with Dr. Backus, a follow up written summary that includes the action plan and an estimate for services or products included in that action plan and any further correspondence regarding clarification from that session.

All new developments of health and correspondence regarding such, go through the same process of gathering information and compiling an amended action plan and are considered as a separate and new consultation.  These will be billed in 15 min increments including communication via chat. We can meet the level of support needed by setting up in advance, the number of contact points expected depending upon the level of intense support desired: from daily to weekly to twice monthly, you choose.
